Sturgis retires after 30 years with Wayne County Recorder’s Office

Chief Deputy Recorder Karen Sturgis leaves behind a legacy of dedication, historical knowledge, and service after three decades helping residents research and preserve county records.

After more than 30 years of service, Karen Sturgis is retiring from the Wayne County Recorder’s Office. 

She began her career in the office in 1995 and served as chief deputy recorder. A Triway High School graduate and former employee of Killbuck Title Agency, Sturgis is known for her love of history and dedication to helping others research property records.

She is married to Scott Sturgis, the mother of daughters Kim Hills and Katie Sturgis, and enjoys attending her grandsons' activities, Josh, Caleb and AJ Hills.

Sturgis takes pride in the relationships she has built throughout her public service career.
