Orrville Public Library fills November with fun, learning and community events
Monthlong lineup includes ORR-con comic event, Cookbook Club, youth Play Labs, book discussions and hands-on creative programs for all ages

“Farmhouse Weekends: Menus for Relaxing Country Meals All Year Long” by Melissa Bahen is the cookbook chosen for Orrville Public Library’s next Cookbook Club. The group will meet Monday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. This cookbook includes 65 seasonal recipes for brunch, dinner and dessert. Copies are available for checkout. Participants are encouraged to prepare a dish or two to share with others, potluck style. No registration is needed.
Orrville Public Library’s November Play Labs will be Wednesdays, Nov. 5 and 19. Visit the children’s department from 1:30-4:30 p.m. to find hands-on activities for age 2-5. Older and younger siblings also are welcome. No registration is needed. For more information call the children’s department at 330-683-1065.
Stop by Orrville Public Library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 for the first ORR-con event. This library-wide comic-con-style event will celebrate everything fans enjoy: comics, movies, gaming, books and more. Plans include princesses, the 501st Cosplayers, J Snips Cosplay, a family jigsaw puzzle contest, tabletop games, photo opportunities, and local artists and businesses. The Rolling with Seo food truck and Barnyard Brews coffee also will be present.
As part of ORR-con, attendees can participate in the Cosplay Contest at 12:30 p.m. by putting together a costume of a favorite character. Costumes will be judged on creativity and enthusiasm. When planning a costume, participants are reminded this event is for all ages. Age categories are 0-11, 12-18 and over 19, with one winner per group. Prizes will be provided by Sweets & Geeks. Registration is requested but not required. No registration is needed for general attendance.
“After Annie” by Anna Quindlen is the book to read for Orrville Public Library’s November Book Club. The story follows a family as they struggle without the woman who was central to their lives, as her daughter is forced to face adulthood at a young age. Through it all they are able to grow, change and become stronger. Copies of the book are available for checkout. The Book Club meeting will take place Thursday, Nov. 13 with gatherings at 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. No registration is needed.
Those in sixth grade through 12th grade are invited to Orrville Public Library to learn how to make a quick bread from start to finish. All ingredients will be provided including gluten- and dairy-free options. The event will take place Friday, Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. Registration is required and can be completed on the library’s website calendar at www.orrville.lib.oh.us or by calling the information desk. By registering for this program, parents and caregivers recognize Orrville Public Library is not responsible for any food-related reactions during the program.
Families of all ages are invited to visit Orrville Public Library on Saturday, Nov. 15 to work together on a jigsaw puzzle. Various puzzles will be available on the tables on the upper level of the library. No registration is needed. This is not a competition; it is simply an opportunity to relax and enjoy time together.
"When Crime Rewrote History" will be the theme of Orrville Public Library’s next Mystery Monday on Nov. 17. The discussion will feature “Crimes of the Centuries: The Cases That Changed Us” by Amber Hunt. Copies of the book are available for checkout. The event will begin at 6 p.m. and is free to attend. This series is for age 19 and over. Future dates are Jan. 26, Feb. 23, March 16 and April 20.
