Orrville Public Library is offering a variety of fall programs including play labs, book clubs, a cookbook club and an Excel basics workshop.

Orrville Public Library’s monthly play labs are filled with hands-on activities for those age 2-5. Older and younger siblings also are welcome. Stop by the children’s department Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and again Oct. 22. No registration is needed. For more information call the children’s department at 330-683-1065.

Students in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to stop by Orrville Public Library to check out the display for the Buckeye Book Awards. Established in 1981, this award is totally student-led. Students nominate their favorite books that have been published within the last two years. The top five nominated books in four different grade ranges are then eligible for other students to vote on. Students are encouraged to read the nominated books in their grade range (kindergarten through second grade, third grade through fifth grade and sixth grade through eighth grade) and then vote for a favorite.

Ballots are available at the library. Voting is available through Oct. 31. Library staff will tally the votes and submit them to the Buckeye Book Award website. For more information call the children’s department.

Those attending the Cookbook Club on Monday, Oct. 6 will share dishes from “Half Baked Harvest: Super Simple” by Tieghan Gerard. This cookbook features meals that are designed for those pressed for time or just starting out. Recipes include night-before meal preparation, one-pot meals, and options for the InstantPot and slow cooker. Copies of the cookbook are available to check out, and participants are asked to prepare a dish or two to share with others, potluck style. The group will meet at 6 p.m. No registration is needed.

Adults are invited to the library’s Thursday, Oct. 9 Book Club to discuss “The Measure” by Nikki Erlick. This book follows eight people as they and everyone else on the continent are given a mysterious box that tells the exact number of years they will live. Copies of the book are available to check out. Meetings are offered at 10 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. No registration is needed.

Students in fourth grade through sixth grade are invited to the library’s Youth Book Club on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. “City Spies” by James Ponti follows Sara Martinez, a hacker who is caught breaking into the New York City foster care system. A British spy arranges her release, and she joins four other kids from around the world to hone skills in hacking, breaking and entering, explosives, and sleight of hand. Books are available at the children’s desk. Registration is required and can be completed on the library’s website calendar at www.orrville.lib.oh.us or by calling the children’s department.
