Orrville Cycling, long a fixture of Orrville, will soon find a new home in downtown Orrville in a remodeled historic building located at 249 W. Market St. The remodeled home of the business coincides with a revitalization of the western edge of the downtown area of West Market Street.

Across the street, the City of Orrville is giving the area around Orrville Railroad Heritage Society’s historic depot a facelift. The city is doing a complete renovation of the landscaping, including adding more greenery and building an outdoor amphitheater.

“Orrville Cycling was established by the Amstutz family in 1957, initially as a Schwinn bicycle shop," said Christine Steiner, co-owner of the shop, along with husband Clyde Steiner. "However, after the Schwinn Corporation went into bankruptcy in the early 1990s, Schwinn's quality declined. In 1988, Orrville Cycling started carrying Trek bikes, which have since become our main brand, offering a balance of quality and affordability. Trek's customer service is highly regarded. We purchased the shop in 2021. My husband Clyde has brought his extensive experience and passion for cycling to the shop. Having worked at the shop in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Clyde possesses a deep understanding of the industry and is skilled as a mechanic, which allows Orrville Cycling to work on all bikes, including e-bikes. Clyde and I manage the shop, prioritizing personalized customer service.”

The Steiners are excited about the new location for several reasons. Relocating downtown is essential to the growth of their business.

“Many individuals are unaware of our existence due to our current location outside city limits in a residential neighborhood," Christine said. "Cyclists who utilize the local trails face difficulties when their bikes require maintenance, as our present location is inconvenient. Our new location will provide convenient access for cyclists riding the trails, particularly those needing assistance.”

The business will offer bicycle rentals at the new location, which will be ideal for riders, given the proximity to the trails.

“By summer of 2026, we will also be offering family-friendly group rides and will be utilizing the trails to promote exercise, being outdoors and spending quality family time," Christine said.

The remodel of the building also promises to add character and charm to the downtown area. The building, built in the 1800s, has been home to many businesses throughout the years and has seen some modifications to both its facade and interior.

“The building was formerly a Bob Snyder Ford Dealership, then a Pontiac and Buick dealership and later a dance studio," Christine said. "We are committed to preserving the building's original character. The existing beams have been restored and stained. Some windows, however, are no longer operational. The front windows and new glass door will be a prominent feature for the storefront in order to have an attractive curb appeal. Although much of the interior brick is beyond repair, we are preserving a section of exposed brick. The second floor will incorporate a mezzanine.”

The back half of the building will be short-term apartments and a boutique-style hotel. Adam Hanzie, owner of the property and local real estate agent, is handling that aspect of the remodel. The Steiners have been documenting the progress of the remodel on the business’s social media.

No matter the location, Orrville Cycle will continue to sell trail/hybrid bikes, e-bikes, road/gravel bikes, BMX MTB, Tandems and kids bikes, offering complete bike service, tune-ups and maintenance on all bike brands. The business also plans to offer rentals at the new location and will start carrying an additional bike brand, Eunorau, which will have e-trikes, kids e-bikes, scooters and electric bikes and products.
