Ohio's Hospice needs volunteers
Ohio’s Hospice needs volunteers to help provide care to members of the community in the last months of their lives. Patients are served in the in-patient unit, in their own homes and in nursing homes. A great deal of “people power” is needed to keep care individualized, unrushed and compassionate.
Specifically, volunteers are sought who are willing and able to do one or more of the following:
—Provide companionship for patients who are lonely.
—Provide spiritual support for patients who want someone to read scriptures and pray with them.
—Stay with a patient for a few hours so family members can get rest or run errands.
—Offer administrative support.
—Provide chaplain services once or twice a month.
—Provide one-on-one companionship between veterans.
—Visit patients with certified therapy pets.
Hospice provides training for individuals interested in finding out if hospice work is a good fit. The next training will begin Sept. 15 and will be held Mondays from 6-8 p.m. at the Wooster location, 1900 Akron Road, Wooster.
