It may be small, but a library card can open the door to more than 12 million items in libraries across Northern Ohio.
Orrville Public Library is more than just books. The library offers Wi-Fi, book clubs for all ages, story times, craft classes, computer usage, passes to the Akron Zoo, puzzles, games, cake pans and more. All of this is free with a library card.
A special promotion will be offered throughout September called Refer-A-Friend. Anyone who knows someone without a library card is encouraged to refer them to sign up. Both parties will be entered in a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card and the library’s 100th anniversary swag.
The Orrville Public Library Friends Used Book Sale is scheduled for Sept. 18, 19 and 20. The sale offers a chance to stock up on books to read during the coming winter days and nights. Volunteer opportunities are available to help at the sale.
The book sale will open at 10 a.m. each day and close at 7 p.m. on Thursday, 5 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. The event will be held in the downstairs community room.
Orrville Public Library’s free Plant Exchange is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Fall is the perfect time for thinning out flower beds and planting something new. Participants are invited to bring a plant and take a plant — or many. Any healthy, portable plants, bulbs, tubers or shrubs are welcome. Master gardener Ann McPeek also will be available to answer plant-related questions.
Basic guidelines for the plant swap include the following:
—Label containers with the type of plant, color and sun specifications.
—Warn recipients if a plant is a rapid spreader so it can be planted with caution.
—Do not bring plants with disease or insect problems.
Registration for Orrville Public Library’s fall story times will begin Monday, Sept. 22. Offered for age 9 months through 5 years, the programs provide an introduction to books, finger plays, songs, games and age-appropriate crafts.
Story times will begin the week of Oct. 6 and end the week of Nov. 17. There will be no story times Wednesday, Oct. 15. The makeup day for those sessions will be Friday, Oct. 17.
Registration can be completed on the library’s website calendar at www.orrville.lib.oh.us or by calling the children’s department at 330-683-1065. A drop-in story time for all ages also is available without registration. Class sizes are limited.

Orrville Public Library Children’s Department will host Bluey Bonanza Sept. 22-27. The event celebrates Bluey and Bingo with a scavenger hunt, crafts and other activities. No registration is needed.
The library also will host a Centennial Saturday celebration on Sept. 27. Visitors are invited to stop by between 10 a.m. and noon for a variety of activities, building tours and refreshments. Highlights include a hand-painted mural by Kristin Lorson on the lower level and the updated teen area.
