E-waste recycling day coming to Moreland
Residents can recycle electronics and appliances May 16 at Moreland Road location
Due to ongoing technological advancement, many electronic products quickly become obsolete, creating a large surplus of unwanted electronic products or “E-waste.” Disposing of E-waste in landfills has the potential to cause human and environmental health impacts.
The Franklin Township E-waste & Appliance Collection Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at the Franklin Township House, 132 W. Moreland Road.
The event is hosted by Moreland Community Historical Society and the Franklin Township Trustees. This will be the 10th year hosting this event to help the community properly dispose of E-waste products.
According to David Bricker, MCHS secretary and Franklin Township fiscal officer, this event is a chance for both involved parties to give back to the community.
“Our community has done so much for us over the years that we like to take opportunities like this to give back to them,” Bricker said. “We are providing a service to the community as well as doing something positive ecologically. We believe it is important to let everyone know that we appreciate their support.”
Here’s a list of items being accepted:
—Automotive/truck/industrial batteries.
—Alkaline and rechargeable batteries.
—Cellphones/mobile devices.
—Telephones/equipment.
—Computers/laptops/I-pads/miscellaneous parts.
—Disk drives/hard drives.
—Monitors: flat screens (all types).
—Televisions: flat screens
—Computer monitors with glass tube: $10 each.
—Televisions, rear projection: $30 each.
—CRT (tube) televisions 20 inches and smaller: $10 each.
—CRT (tube) televisions above 20 inches: $20 each.
—Household electronics.
—Household appliances.
—Business machines/copy machines.
—Power equipment/power tools.
—Scrap metal.
—Large appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, ranges, microwaves, washers, dryers and dehumidifiers.
“Basically, if it plugs in or works off a battery, we will take it,” Bricker said. “Plus, we want people to know that they are more than welcome to bring in their traditional recycling as well.”
Hazardous waste and tires will not be taken this year.
All proceeds will benefit the Moreland Community Historical Society.
In conjunction with the recycling day, the Franklin Township Trustees will be available to hear people’s concerns or ideas. They also will distribute some safety items to Franklin Township residents. These items have been made available by using funds from the Wooster Community Hospital's board, given to the township to promote safety.
