Celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day with College of Wooster women’s basketball
College of Wooster celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day with events on Feb. 4.
Join the celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day at The College of Wooster as the women’s basketball team takes on Oberlin College Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m.
An all-sports clinic for all youth boys and girls will be held in COW's upstairs gymnasium across the hall from the spectator entrance to Timken Gymnasium from 5:15-6 p.m. Most varsity female sports and several club sports will have stations set up to try introductory skills for their sport.
Those participating in the clinic and their families get free admission to the basketball game, and clinic participants will receive a card for free popcorn at the concession stand. Archie will be available for photo opportunities during the clinic.
At halftime of the women's basketball game, fifth grade teams from Smithville and Hillsdale will scrimmage, and then all youth and adult current or former female athletes are invited to the upper bleachers on the side of the gymnasium opposite the team benches for a group photo.
Parents should note the group photo and clinic photos will be shared on the COW-sponsored team and athletics department social media accounts. Allowing a child to participate in the clinic and photo constitutes consent for the child to potentially be featured on COW-sponsored social media accounts.
Other events for National Girls and Women in Sports Day include female student-athletes stopping in several elementary classrooms across the community to read stories and associate professor emerita Brenda Meese giving a presentation titled A Legacy of Women's Sports at The College of Wooster Wednesday, Feb. 4 at noon in the Alley, located on the lower level of Lowry Center. Meese's presentation is free to attend.
