It’s time to dust off your dancing shoes and get ready to feel the funk. Swizzle Stick, the electrifying powerhouse known for its high-energy performances and timeless Motown, funk and soul sound, is set to light up the stage at Medina Square’s gazebo on Friday, Aug. 22, at 8 p.m.
The “Just a Numb3r Dance Crew” will open the show at 7:30 p.m.MSM
Presented by Access the Arts, the lively night promises a journey through the golden era of rhythm and groove with a mix of classic and contemporary hits. The Akron band is known for its “big sound” and ability to get people dancing, according to the Downtown Akron Partnership.
Opening at 7:30 p.m. for Swizzle Stick is Just a Numb3r Dance Crew. The group, made up of people age 55 and older, is known for its creative routines to popular songs. Its purpose is to encourage older adults to maintain an active lifestyle through dance. Many members have a background with the Wine & Goldies, the senior dance team for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Da Dawg House food truck will be serving hot dogs, coneys, smash burgers and fresh-cut fries. Joining them will be the Ice Bucket treat trailer, offering 40 shaved ice flavors, a wide variety of sherbet shakes and novelty ice cream favorites.
Access the Arts will provide fun shakers, tambourines and giant bubbles to entertain kids. Families are encouraged to attend and enjoy an upbeat evening of music and fun for all ages in Medina Square. In case of rain, the concert will be held at the United Church of Christ adjacent to the square. The free event is funded in part by a grant from the Ohio Arts Council.
