Claggett eighth grader Bennett Garcia, in collaboration with Claggett’s Student Leadership Team, is leading an initiative designed to make cycling more accessible to local youth. The project, called Recycle & Ride Medina, focuses on providing bicycles to individuals – especially children – who may not otherwise have the opportunity to own one.

Garcia’s passion for biking served as the driving force behind the program. Recognizing the sense of freedom and enjoyment that cycling brings, he was inspired to create a way for more young people in the community to experience it.

“I’ve always loved biking, and I wanted to turn that passion into something that could really help other kids,” Garcia said. “Recycle & Ride is about giving them that same opportunity to ride, explore and enjoy where they live.”

A key partnership with Eddy’s Bike Shop in Fairlawn has played a crucial role in bringing the project to life. The shop donated bicycles, providing the foundation for the initiative. With this support, Recycle & Ride Medina is already positioned to make a meaningful impact on families throughout the area.

In addition to distributing bikes, the initiative highlights Medina’s strengths as a bike-friendly community. Many sidewalk-lined roads and miles of scenic trails offer a safe and enjoyable environment for riders of all ages.

Garcia remains optimistic about the future of Recycle & Ride Medina and the opportunities it will create. Through his efforts, he hopes not only to provide transportation but also to inspire a lifelong love of biking.
