Medina's Friends of the Cemetery kicks off fourth photo contest
Contest invites community to showcase Medina’s historic cemeteries through photography; entries accepted through Oct. 25.
Friends of the Cemetery is inviting photographers of all ages to capture the beauty and history of Medina’s burial grounds during its fourth annual amateur photo contest, which runs from Sept. 1 through Oct. 25.
This year’s contest expands opportunities for entrants, who may take photographs at either Old Town Graveyard, Medina’s oldest cemetery, or Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum. Participants may submit one original photo showcasing landscapes, still lifes, wildlife, plants or architectural details.
Winners will be chosen in three age categories: 12 and under, 13 to 17, and 18 and older. Youth winners will receive $50 gift cards to Sweets & Geeks, while the adult winner will take home a $50 Foundry Social gift card. Winners will be notified by Nov. 1.
Entries must be submitted digitally. Photos should be in .jpg or .png format at a resolution of 300 dpi, with file sizes not exceeding 10 MB. Submissions must include a registration form, available at friendsofmedinacemetery.org. Only one entry per person will be accepted.
The contest is free to enter and open to amateur photographers of all skill levels. Judges will consider composition, originality and how well the image captures the theme of serenity and beauty in the cemeteries. Selected photos may also be featured on the Friends’ website and in future promotional materials.
Friends of the Cemetery, a nonprofit organization, works to preserve Medina’s historic cemeteries and increase community awareness of their cultural and historical value. The group launched the photo contest to encourage the public to see cemeteries as spaces of history, nature and artistry.
