Board members were sworn in, officers elected and committee assignments approved for the year
The Medina City Schools Board of Education recently held its annual organizational meeting Tuesday, Jan. 13, welcoming newly elected and returning board members as they were sworn into office by Treasurer David Chambers. Board members sworn in included Victoria Druley, Aaron Hair and Jeanne Pritchard.
During the meeting, the board elected its officers for the year, naming Amy Smoyer as board president and Jeanne Pritchard as vice president.
The board also approved its required annual organizational actions, including setting regular meeting dates and locations, board member compensation as outlined in Ohio law, liability insurance and standing resolutions related to district operations, financial oversight and participation in the Ohio School Boards Association.
To support public access and community engagement, the board voted to maintain its regular monthly meeting start time of 6 p.m.
Committee appointments were approved to support focused work in key areas. Druley and Pritchard were appointed to the Curriculum and Instruction Committee; Hair and Smoyer to the Facilities Committee; Hair and Andrew West to the Finance Committee; and Druley and Smoyer to the Policy Committee. Pritchard was appointed to the Medina County Career Center Board. Druley will serve as the Ohio School Boards Association legislative liaison, and West was named OSBA student achievement liaison.
In addition, superintendent committee representation was confirmed, with Hair serving on the Insurance Committee, West on the Medina City Schools Foundation and Smoyer on the Partnership Council.
