The Medina County District Library is rolling out a lineup of history and genealogy programs this fall, offering everything from Victorian medicine to haunted Ohio lore.
The season kicks off Sept. 6 with two programs: “Build Your Own Locality Guide” at the Medina Library and “The History of European Witches” at the Seville Library. On Sept. 8, the Lodi Library will host a presentation by the Western Reserve Historical Society on Eliot Ness and the infamous Cleveland Torso Murders.
Other highlights include “Name That Place!” where residents help identify 1950s and 1960s aerial photos of Medina, and a genealogy discussion group that meets monthly at the Medina Library. On Sept. 24, the Brunswick Library will explore the unusual practices of Victorian medicine, while Sept. 27 brings a virtual Family History Day focused on research techniques and resources, including sessions on DAR records and military archives.
October offers a mix of history and intrigue, from “Those Quirky Victorians” at the Buckeye Library and “Cooking the Books” on vintage cookbooks at the Medina Library, to Archaeology Day with professional talks and demonstrations. Paranormal enthusiasts Kathy and Greg Feketik will discuss the Ohio State Reformatory on Oct. 21 in Lodi, followed by Halloween-themed programs at the Brunswick and Lodi branches later in the month.
November continues with sessions on ancestors’ education and literacy, as well as a Nov. 24 program at the Lodi Library exploring life in Ohio 450 million years ago.
