Historic Interurban station relocated to nearby museum
Under the cover of night Aug. 18, crews moved the historic Interurban railroad station from the Feckley parking lot on South Court Street to its new home at the Medina County Historical Society’s McDowell-Phillips House Museum on Prospect Street.
The relocation, handled by World Truck and the City of Medina, took place between 10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. and required precise coordination. Crews transferred the 90-year-old structure from one trailer to another, using the width of the street and specialized equipment to balance the building before slowly hauling it along Smith Road.
Once at the museum, forklifts delicately maneuvered the station down the driveway and into place, with Medina police providing support. The building will now undergo repairs and preservation just a short distance from the original Interurban route on Medina Street.
