Sept. 29 was an exciting day at the Salvation Army in Medina, where 107 hopeful participants gathered for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to ride aboard the iconic Goodyear Blimp. The opportunity, donated by Goodyear Tire, helped raise thousands of dollars to support local programs and services.
The unique fundraiser was organized by the Medina Salvation Army Advisory Board and Fundraising Committee and promoted by the Friends of Salvation Army in Medina. While many people are familiar with spotting the famous blimp floating above Northeast Ohio, few ever get the chance to climb aboard — making this raffle truly special.
For a $100 donation, participants entered to win a private blimp ride for up to four passengers. The event raised $10,700, with every dollar benefiting programs that serve families and individuals in need throughout the Medina area.
In 2024 alone, the Medina Salvation Army engaged 5,703 children in after-school and youth programming, served 6,571 meals to fight food insecurity, and distributed more than 9,000 toys and gifts to children and seniors to ensure everyone enjoyed the holidays. Every Wednesday, community members are invited to share a home-cooked meal with neighbors and take home groceries to help get through the week.
“The generosity of our supporters makes all of this possible,” said a spokesperson for the Medina Salvation Army. “We’re so grateful for everyone who participated in this fundraiser — and for Goodyear’s amazing donation.”
As the Christmas season approaches, the Salvation Army invites residents to visit its Medina location and see firsthand the difference local donations make. Community members can also sign up to volunteer as bell ringers — a holiday tradition that helps fund essential programs year-round. To reserve a time, visit www.registertoring.com.
And the big news everyone’s been waiting for: David Cesaratto was the lucky winner of the Goodyear Blimp ride. Congratulations, David — and thank you to everyone who helped make this uplifting event a success.
