Biblical scholar Dr. Greg Carey to discuss Revelation and apocalyptic literature in Medina
Lancaster Theological Seminary professor to lead Oct. 26 worship and afternoon talk at Medina United Church of Christ.
Renowned biblical scholar and author Dr. Greg Carey will speak on apocalyptic literature Oct. 26 at Medina United Church of Christ, Congregational.
Carey will preach at all three worship services at 8:15, 9 and 10:30 a.m., then offer a talk titled “Unmasking Power: Revelation and the Forces of Domination” at 3 p.m. This visit was rescheduled from earlier this year.
Carey, professor of New Testament at Lancaster Theological Seminary/The Seminary at Moravian University in Lancaster, Pa., is a leading voice in biblical interpretation. He has authored or co-edited 10 books, including Reading Revelation: Theology, Ethics and Resistance; Using Our Outside Voice: Public Biblical Interpretation; Faithful and True: A Study Guide to the Book of Revelation; and Death, the End of History, and Beyond: Eschatology in the Bible.
He has appeared on the BBC, PBS, the Discovery Channel and the History Channel, and frequently contributes to The Christian Century and other outlets.
“Dr. Carey is a great man of faith and teacher. He can take some of the most inaccessible scriptures and make them not only accessible, but life affirming,” said the Rev. Dr. Luke Lindon, senior pastor at the church. “He invites us to engage the urgent questions these texts ask of us.”
All events are free and will take place at the church, 217 E. Liberty St., Medina.
