Pitching, timely hitting sparks Blue Devils to victories
Danville rallies to beat rival Fredericktown
Three Danville pitchers combined on a one-hitter as the Blue Devils beat Genoa Christian, 13-1, on May 2.
Reuben Troyer (four strike outs), Nolan Ridgway (three strike outs) and Brycen Burke (one strike out) combined on the three-hitter.
Ridgway also led the Devils offensively, smacking two doubles and driving in four runs. Burke and Curtis Cline each had two singles.
The Devils then walked off a 5-4 victory over Fredericktown on May 4.
The Freddies had taken a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but Danville got a two-run single by Cy Wallace to knot up the score. Clayton Vance then drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth to win the game.
Ridgway had two singles to pace Danville. Troyer, Cline, Wallace and Mason Savage all singled.
Troyer pitched the first 6.1 innings, striking out five. Briggs Wallace finished up, fanning three.
Softball
Addy Bocock continued her dominating senior season, tossing a three-hitter to lead Danville to a 10-1 victory over Fredericktown on May 4.
Bocock struck out 15 batters on the day, pushing her close to 200 on the season.
She also smacked a home run and a single to help the offense. Ruby Bartok also homered and singled, while Taylor Meade had a double and two singles. Ryleigh Geog cracked two doubles, and Kelly Carder had a double and a single.
