Road trip good for Centerburg baseball team
Trojans win pair of games in West Virginia
The Centerburg baseball team took a little road trip to West Virginia this past weekend and came home with a pair of victories.
The Trojans jumped on the Scott Skyhawks in the opener, then held on for an 11-9 victory.
Aiden Trobridge led the Trojans with a double and two singles. Dustin Parker added three singles, while Bradley Baker, Ryan Long and Lincoln Julian had two each.
Parker started on the mound for CHS, fanning three in four innings of work. Kaleb Rauck, Baker and Vinny Morgan each pitched an inning, with Baker and Morgan fanning two each.
The early game explosions continued for Centerburg in the second game, as the Trojans beat Wayne, 12-2.
Morgan led Centerburg with a double and two singles, while Parker had three singles.
The Trojans then dropped a heart-breaker to Mount Gilead, 4-3, on Tuesday.
The teams were tied at 1 through 10 innings before Centerburg scored two in the top of the 11th. The Indians responded with three in the bottom half of the inning to walk it off.
Clarke Redd led the Trojans with a solo home run. Long added two singles, while Baker and Morgan each had one.
Baker threw the first eight innings for CHS, striking out seven. Brody Cole finished up, fanning two.
Softball
The Centerburg softball team took on a couple of bigger division schools on April 25, splitting their games.
The Trojans opened with an 11-3 victory over Canal Winchester, thanks to a six-run fourth and four-run seventh.
Abby Herren continued her torrid pace at the plate, smacking a home run, a single and driving in three runs. Lydia Gribben added a home run, a single and three RBI, while Morgan Beaver had a triple and three singles; Jazmyn Larimore had four singles; and Sydnee Schoonover doubled.
Herren tossed the first two innings, striking out three. Beaver finished up, fanning four.
Centerburg led Bishop Watterson, 3-0, in the fifth, but watched as the Eagles scored four times to win, 4-3.
Grace O’Quinn led the Trojans with two doubles. Herren added a double and a single, while Larimore had three singles and Gribben and Schoonover both doubled.
Beaver tossed the first four innings on the hill, striking out two. Herren fanned two in her inning and Dial struck out two in her 1.2 innings.
Centerburg kept pace in the KMAC with a 14-3 victory over Mount Gilead on Tuesday.
Herren smacked a home run, double, single and drove in five runs to lead the Trojans, which scored nine runs in the fifth inning to break the game open. Gribben added a home run, double and single, while Beaver had two doubles and a single and Larimore had a double and two singles. Kinlie Sharp also smacked two singles.
Beaver went the distance on the hill, striking out five.
