Crouch just misses shot at U.S. Open
Golfer finishes two shots out of qualifying for professional tournament
Mount Vernon’s T.T. Crouch has been shooting for an opportunity to play in the U.S. Open for years. He’s been close many times, and just missed this year, finishing in a tie for ninth at the U.S. Open Final Qualifying on Monday at the Lakes Golf and Country Club in Westerville.
Crouch shot rounds of 67 and 70 on the par 72 course in Westerville, putting him at 7-under par in what’s considered the longest day in golf.
The top four individuals in the one-day, two-round tournament advanced to play in this year’s U.S. Open, set for June 18-21 at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York. The cut line was 9 under par.
In a different qualifier at Springfield Country Club, Howard’s Drew Salyers shot rounds of 71 and 68 to finish 1-under par and place 27th. The top five golfers at this qualifier advanced and the cut line was 7-under.
