Fredericktown baseball posts wins in dramatic fashion
Late rallies help Freddies knock off Pirates, Devils

Drama was the name of the game for the Fredericktown
baseball team this week.
Fredericktown needed eight innings to knock off Cardington,
10-9, on April 22.

Kaiden Gibson doubled in Jayce Beeman for the winning run
with one out in the bottom of the eighth after the Pirates had rallied in the
seventh to tie it up.
Graham Overholt led the Freddies with two singles. Grady
Mills also doubled, while Vince Lavin, Beeman, Zane Luckmeier and Mason Bennett
all singled.
The Freddies used a four-man committee on the mound – Lavin,
Luckmeier, Bennett and Gavin Buzzard. Bennett fanned four in four innings of
work.
Fredericktown shut down Johnstown in picking up a 4-0
victory on April 25.
Bennett threw the first 5.1 innings, fanning two, while
Buzzard finished, striking out two.
Overholt smacked three singles to pace FHS. Lavin and Reese
Hannan had two singles each.

The Freddies rallied from a 5-0 deficit to pin a 6-5 loss in
eight innings to rival Danville on Tuesday.
FHS scored one run each in the fifth and sixth innings, then
tied it up with three in the bottom of the seventh. Mills then gave the
Freddies the victory with a two-out single that scored Beeman in the bottom of
the eighth.
Mills finished the day with three singles to pace FHS. Lavin
added a double, single and three RBI, while Gibson and Cole Burnside had two singles
each.
Carson Rinehart pitched the first six innings, fanning
eight. Buzzard finished up, fanning one.
Softball
The Fredericktown softball team brought the big bats in
three victories this week.
The Freddies smacked eight hits in beating Cardington, 8-1,
on April 22.
Abbey Wittman belted a double and a single to pace FHS. Vika
Arnett and Rylei Schulties added two singles each, while Halie Mull and Natalie
Mull had one hit apiece.
Natalie Mull went the distance on the mound, striking out
three.
The Freddies fell to Madison, 6-2, on April 24.
Wittman had a double and a single to lead the Freddies.
Arnett added two singles and Baylee Newton had one.
Arnett pitched the first four innings, fanning one. Natalie
Mull and Haylee Frye each tossed an inning with Frye fanning two.
Fredericktown then swept Loudonville, 13-4, and 8-7.
In the opener, Arnett had two triples and two singles to
lead the Freddies. Halie Mull and Jazzy Wittman each added two doubles and a
single, while Abbey Whittman had a double and two singles. Kiersten Mills
cracked two singles and Aubree Whitley doubled.
Natalie Mull started on the hill, striking out three in five
innings. Frye finished up, fanning two.
In the nightcap, Fredericktown held off a late rally to win,
8-7.
Ella Au and Halie
Mull each had a double and a single to pace the Freddies. Whitley added a
triple, while Abbey Wittman had two singles. Arnett and Mills both doubled.
Arnett threw the first three innings, whiffing two. Natalie
Mull and Frye finished up.
Danville scored two runs in the seventh inning to edge the
Freddies, 3-1, on Tuesday.
Jazzy Wittman smacked a double to lead Fredericktown. Arnett
and Natalie Mull both singled.
Arnett pitched all seven innings, striking out four.
Track
Ella Bouton set a meet record, winning two events, at the
Gerald Swankhouse Memorial at Upper Sandusky on April 25.
Bouton tossed the discus 139-foot-7 to set the meet record
and win the event for Fredericktown, which finished fifth as a team. She also
won the shot put with a toss of 41-6.5
Jenny Alexander came in second in the pole vault, leaping
10-6, while Gwen Lavin was fourth in the 1,600 (5:54.56) and Gracyn Toombs
fourth in the shot put (34-3.25). The Freddie 4x400 relay team of Jeanna
Aurand, Sophia Overholt, Lavin and Haley Thompson finished fourth in 4:46.31.
The boys team finished fifth overall, as well.
Cooper Rine came in second in the 110 hurdles in a time of
15.92, while Blake Sipes was second in the 100 (11.57).
The Freddie relay teams also finished well. The 4x100 team
of Sipes, Gavin Toombs, Logan Roush and Tanner Estep were third in 46.16; the
4x200 team of Rine, Griffin Garver, Estep and Sipes were fourth in 1:36.98; and
the 4x800 team of Isaiah Dickerson, Carter Budd, Jonas Bostic and Patrick
McGuckin were fourth in 9:29.57.
