Centerburg captures titles at home track meet
Trojan boys win 11 of 16 events on the day, while girls win seven
The Centerburg track teams enjoyed some home cooking on Monday.
The boys team powered its way to a victory, while the girls were also able to come out on top in a five-team meet at Centerburg.
Centerburg’s boys won 11 of the 16 events to score 157 points and winning in a runaway. Fredericktown was second with 43, Danville third at 41 and East Knox fourth at 39. Genoa Christian scored 30 to finish fifth.
The Trojans swept all four relay events and three of the four field events on the day. The 4x800-meter team of Andrew Dickhof, Lane Kloss, Carter Netting and Mason Shaw kicked off the day with a win in 9:11.21. The 4x200 team of Tanner Dickerson, Conor Crane, Brayden Snyder and David Jones won in 1:41.18; the 4x100 team of Blane Ball, Jaydon Joiner, Eli Indiciani and Hayden Love won in 44.78; and the 4x400 team of Jackson Ballinger, Joiner, Love and Dickerson) won in 3:45.78.
Ball also won the long jump (20-foot-10), while Ballinger took home gold in the shot put (45-0) and Caleb Rhodebeck won the high jump (5-6) for Centerburg.
The Trojans also got event victories from Skyler Merklin (110-meter hurdles, 17.94, and 300 hurdles, 41.54); Nathan Costa (800, 2:16.46) and Samuel Dickhof (3200, 11:28.18).
East Knox’s Kaiden Clutter won the 1,600 run in 4:58.84, while Danville’s Owen Gronberg won the discus with a throw of 147-8. Danville’s Aidan Mickley won the 400 (55.20), while EK’s Cason Faucett was the top local finisher in the 100 (11.72) and 200 (23.52).
The girls event was much closer, but the Trojans still came out on top, finishing with 98 points. Danville was second at 72, followed by East Knox (63), Fredericktown (62) and Genoa Christian (26). Centerburg won seven events on the day, including two relays.
Payton Tucker won two events for Centerburg – the 1,600 (5:58.33) and long jump (14-9.5). Morgan Gaboric won the 300 hurdles (54.15), Ella Jackson the 800 (2:42.02) and Stella Sands the shot put (37-7.5). CHS’ team of Autumn Davis, Jersey Ballinger, Myra Miles and Lillie Quick won the 4x100 in 54.95; and the team of Ella Jackson, Afton Ellis, Molly Henry and Tucker won the 4x400 in 4:43.29.
Danville’s Kelsey Hackman won a pair of events – the 100 hurdles (17.46) and 100 (13.17), while teammate Brookelynn Carter set a new school record in winning the discus with a throw of 117-3. Raegan Malone won the 3,200 in 15:57.15 and Stella Brecheisen won the high jump at 4-6.
East Knox got victories from Isabelle Bostic in the 400 (1:00.72) and Ava Faucett in the 200 (27.38), as well as from the 4x200 relay team of Faucett, Ellie Clark, Macie Fawcett and Bostic in 1:50.06.
Fredericktown’s team of Madi Shade, Gabby Redmond, Olivia Overholt and Truth Yarman won the 4x800 relay in a time of 12:09.33.
Fredericktown Invitational
Mount Vernon came in second in both the boys and girls at the Fredericktown Invitational, held May 1 at Highland High School.
Jonathan Alder won both events. East Knox was third on the girls’ side, with Fredericktown sixth and Centerburg 11th.
Danaisa Best won a pair of events to help the Yellow Jackets to the runner-up finish. She won the 100 (13.03) and the 200 (27.01). Teammate Nadia Nougi won the long jump at 15-10, while the 4x100 relay team of Juliet Boyd, Nougi, Savannah Rose and Best won in 50.96.
East Knox had one individual winner and two relay teams victorious. Isabelle Bostic won the 400 in 1:00.69, while the 4x200 relay team of Ava Faucett, Ellie Clark, Macie Fawcett and Isabelle Bostic won in 1:47.78 and the 4x400 team of Faucett, Cloe Tucker, Fawcett and Bostic won in 4:16.31.
Fredericktown won three events, two by Ella Bouton. The senior thrower won both the shot put (38-9) and the discus (139-5), while teammate Jenny Alexander won the pole vault at 10-6.
Mount Vernon’s boys team won six events en route to the runner-up finish. East Knox was fifth, Centerburg sixth and Fredericktown eighth.
Brady Mills (400, 50.77), Calvin Heithaus (800, 1:59.28), Logan Autherson (shot put, 45-0.5), Ben Fitzpatrick (long jump, 21-7.5) and Austin May (high jump, 5-10) all won individual events for the Jackets. The 4x100 team of Jamison Oakes, Fitzpatrick, Mills and Mason Richards also won in a time of 43.36.
East Knox’s Cason Faucett won two events on the day – the 100 (11.36) and 200 (23.04), while teammate Weston Bostic won the pole vault at 13-0.
