Mount Vernon’s Lucy Rush kicked the season off with a bang.
The senior won the Baron Blast in the Yellow Jackets’ season
opening cross-country race, leading the Jackets to a sixth-place finish with
149 points. Jonathan Alder won the event with 34 points, while Centerburg finished
eighth with 168.
Rush crossed the finish line in 19:29.33, nearly 40 seconds
ahead of Jonathan Alder’s Addison Ranley, who finished second.
Amanda Misarti, a junior, was the next Jacket runner to
finish, coming in 26th place with a time of 24:06.58. Cora Stetler
was 37th in 24:58.59, followed by Callie Peugh (40th,
25:12.33) and Madison Seng (77th, 31:18.42).
Centerburg was led by Payton Tucker, who finished 15th
in 22:32.08. Audrey Garner was next at 28th in 24:22.58, followed by
Brianna Giehl (33rd, 24:33.08), Afton Ellis (50th, 26:32.83)
and Merrideth Nash (75th, 30:08.08).
The MV boys’ team also had a strong showing with three
runners in the top 13. They were led by freshman Calvin Heithaus, who finished
third in a time of 17:13.69. Owen Petrie finished 12th in 18:13.71
and Gavin Andrews was 13th in 18:16.96. They were followed by Joey Butts
(25th, 19:09.95), Brady Mills (30th, 19:29.20), Nathan
Jose (58th, 20:49.96) and Anderson Seng (65th, 21:11.96).
MV finished third as a team with 82 points. Alder won the
event with 52 and Centerburg was sixth at 148.
Andrew Dickhof led the Trojans with a ninth-place finish in
17:56.71. Carter Netting was 11th at 18:07.71, followed by Lane Kloss
(41st, 20:00.46), Sam Dickhof (56th, 20:44.21), Corbin
Netting (66th, 21:14.46) and Noah Matthews (67th,
21:15.21).
Newark Catholic Invitational
The Fredericktown girls’ cross-country team finished fifth
in the Newark Catholic Invitational on Aug. 23. The Freddies scored 157 points,
while Watterson won the event with just 31.
Peyton Blakesley led the Freddies by placing 16th
in 21:25.17. Gwen Lavin was next in 23rd at 22:05.95, followed by
Angelina Overholt (32nd, 23:01.74), Elizabeth Swartzentruber (37th,
23:13.56) and Sophia Overholt (42nd, 23:45.00).
Danville also competed in the invite. Brooklyn Ashman was
the first Blue Devil to cross the line, placing 57th in 24:42.14. Raegan
Malone was next at 76th (27:11.17), followed by Gracie Lucas (78th,
27:32.03) and Hailey Colopy (89th, 29:31.08).
The Freddie boys’ team finished sixth with 140 points.
Watterson also won the boys’ race with 59 points.
Anson Wenger was the top Freddie runner, placing 12th
in 17:42.89. Lincoln Snyder was next at 19th in 17:48.34, followed
by Allen Swartzentruber (27th, 18:22.45), Darren Hartley (36th,
18:50.96), Gideon Rashley (48th, 19:32.52), Nolan Bender (49th,
19:33.93) and Trace Armstrong (53rd, 19:44.70).
Danville had two runners compete. Nick Mosher finished 86th
in 22:46.67 and Evan Crider was 87th in 23:00.36.
