Lucy Knox DAR marks 10th National Day of Service with community project

Members honored the organization’s 135 years of service by preparing vegetables for the Hot Meals program at First Presbyterian Church.

Lucy Knox Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution members Cindy Sperry, left, Jana Stewart, Church Member Ellen Conrad, Sandy McCann, Donna Spinks and Kathy Gamble celebrated the 10th anniversary of the DAR Day of Service by helping chop vegetables for the Hot Meals program at First Presbyterian Church.

Nationwide, members of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrate the anniversary of its founding on Oct. 11, 1890.

This year the Lucy Knox Chapter celebrated the 10th Anniversary of the DAR Day of Service, a day set aside to commemorate the founding and to honor the countless ways Daughters have uplifted their communities by service – supporting veterans, strengthening schools, caring for neighborhoods, an so much more.

Members of the local Lucy Knox Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution observed the day chopping vegetables for the Hot Meals program at the First Presbyterian Church. Members arrived with bags of onions, carrots, celery and peppers and spent the afternoon preparing the vegetables for the next meal. It is the chapter’s way of honoring the organization’s commitment to 135 years of service.
