Fredericktown caps off perfect season with pair of wins

Freddies finish regular season 22-0; first time in school history

Perfection. The Fredericktown boys’ basketball team achieved it during the regular season, capped off by two wins this week to improve its record to 22-0.

The undefeated regular season is the first in school history. Three Freddie teams had just one regular-season loss — 1930/31, 1948/49 and 1955/56.

Saturday’s win was a little tougher than they would have liked, but the Freddies won their 21st game by beating Utica, 67-49.

The Redskins led midway through the second quarter and only trailed by one at halftime (29-28). But, the Freddies pulled away in the second half for the victory.

Zane Luckmeier and Blake Sipes each scored 20 points to lead the Freddies. Luckmeier also pulled down 10 rebounds, had two assists and two steals, while Sipes had seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Gavin Toombs checked in with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

There were no troubles for the Freddies in the finale against visiting Mount Gilead on Tuesday.

The Freddies held MG scoreless for the first quarter and rolled to a 72-35 victory over the Indians.

Danville boys’ basketball

The Danville boys’ basketball team opened tournament play in impressive fashion on Tuesday, cruising to a 57-28 victory over visiting Northside Christian.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 20-4 lead after one quarter and went on to the easy victory. Danville will host the winner of Ridgedale and Liberty Christian on Friday at 7 p.m. for a shot at advancing to district.

Aidan Mickley (10) and Parker Proper (8) combined for 18 of the Devils’ 20 points in the first quarter. Proper added three triples in the second as Danville took a 41-12 lead into the locker room.

Proper finished the night with a team-high 19 points. Mickley added 16, while Ashton Spaulding had 14 and Carson Proper six.
