With bad weather, safety of the students is No. 1

Superintendent Dr. James Millet updated the board of education on Monday on district procedure when the weather is inclement and school is closed.

“Safety of the students is No. 1, followed by the road conditions. We check with several sources about the roads. Also, the amount of snowfall is a factor and parking conditions at the school. We share with other districts about the weather conditions, cold temperatures, and weather advisories are also a factor,” Millet said. “The final decision to close the school is made by the superintendents. We have an all-call system, and we text the staff and families first. The information is posted on the website, social media and the radio.”

Lindsay Yoder, intervention specialist at Baltic Elementary, was named the Semester Outstanding Teacher.

The board also did the following:

—Nominated April Beachy as board president and Dr. James Miller as vice president for the 2025 school year.

—Set the times, dates and places for the board of education meetings, usually held the third Monday of the month at 6 p.m. in the high school library. The meetings are subject to change.
