Knights also notch wins in football, soccer and golf during busy week

Katherine Kaster helped the West Holmes girls cross country team win the Division III race over 17 other teams at the Wooster Invite on Sept. 6.

The West Holmes girls cross country team won the Division III race over 17 other teams at the Wooster Invite on Sept. 6.

Iriel Mena was the individual champion for Div. III with a personal-record time of 18:54. She is the second-fastest girl in school history.

Katherine Kaster ran a personal-record 19:48 to place fifth. Alexis Wagers finished 11th in 20:40.

Football

West Holmes picked up a 28-7 nonleague win over Dover on Sept. 5.

Girls soccer

West Holmes downed Coshocton 6-2 in a nonleague clash on Sept. 6.

Charli Murphy (two assists), Codi Murphy (two assists) and Kylie Turpen all scored two goals to pace the Lady Knights. Landrie Croskey had three saves in goal.

Wooster picked up a 3-1 win over West Holmes in Ohio Cardinal Conference action on Sept. 4.

Charli Murphy scored WH’s lone goal. Croskey finished with seven saves.

Girls golf

West Holmes finished second at the Clear Fork Colt Invitational with a 333 on Sept. 8.

The Lady Knights were led by Mattie Shankel (75), Aubrey Burchfield (78) and Sophie Robb (82).

West Holmes and OCC rival Wooster both shot a 200, but the Lady Knights won by a fifth-player tiebreaker during a dual match on Sept. 4.

Robb (45), Burchfield (48), Shankel (51) and Payton Hudson (56) all scored for WH, which won by Jevin Zheng’s 56, beating Wooster’s fifth player.

West Holmes shot a 164 to beat Mapleton (187), Northmor (197) and Clear Fork (200) in a quad match at Little Apple Golf Course on Sept. 3.

Robb led the Lady Knights with a 40. Burchfield and Hudson (career best) added 41s while Shankel carded a 42.

Boys golf

West Holmes beat Loudonville 171-192 in nonleague play on Sept. 8.

Kobie Yoder led all scorers with a 40 while Zane Kinsey shot a 41.

Orrville defeated West Holmes 168-200 in nonleague action on Sept. 4.

Logan Allison led WH with a 47.

Boys cross country

West Holmes finished 13th out of 19 teams in the Div. III race at the Wooster Invite on Sept. 6.

Owen Neville led WH with a 14th-place finish in a season-best 16:58. Owen Mallasch ran a personal-record 17:59 to place 38th. Parker Garver ran a personal-record 18:39 to place 57th.

Boys soccer

New Philadelphia picked up a 7-0 win over West Holmes in an OCC clash on Sept. 9.

Goalie Jordan Gerber recorded 15 saves for the Knights.

Coshocton earned a 5-2 nonleague win over West Holmes on Sept. 6.

Garrett Obrst led the Knights with a goal and an assist while Oliver Hiller scored once.

Mansfield Senior downed West Holmes 7-2 in an OCC battle on Sept. 4.

Obrst led the Knights with two goals. Hiller and Jacob Galbraith had an assist.

Volleyball

Wooster earned a 25-14, 25-6, 25-13 win over West Holmes in OCC play on Sept. 9.

Lena Burgett (eight assists), Mallory Marmet (four kills, four blocks) and Mati Fair (seven digs) paced the Lady Knights.

Coshocton pulled out a 24-26, 21-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-6 win over West Holmes in a nonleague battle on Sept. 8.

Burgett (19 assists) and Marmet (24 kills, five blocks, 11 digs) led WH.

New Philadelphia rolled to a 25-21, 25-7, 25-6 win over West Holmes in OCC play on Sept. 4.

Rorie Wilcox (eight digs), Marmet (seven kills) and Camrie Wilson (five assists) paced the Lady Knights.

Eighth grade football

West Holmes defeated Madison 38-24 on Sept. 3.

WH’s offensive line of Lovell, Camacho, Snyder, Justice and Shamp dominated the line of scrimmage as Kaidence Thomas and Cameron Badger combined to run for five touchdowns.

Jacoby Rice sealed the game with an interception on defense. Bryson Snyder forced a fumble while Joey Camacho broke up two passes.

Ashland downed West Holmes 20-0 on Aug. 27.

Thomas led the defense with numerous tackles. Aiden Lehman recovered a fumble, Rice had an interception and Grantham Lovell blocked a PAT.

Seventh grade football

Madison beat West Holmes 30-6 on Sept. 3.

Briggs Patterson caught a touchdown pass from Christian Small for WH’s lone score. Kolston Wagers led the defense with a fumble recovery.

West Holmes defeated Ashland 20-18 on Aug. 27.

WH’s offensive line of Hudson Ross, Logan Kaser, Nick Crider, Wagers and Ryker Stokovich controlled the line of scrimmage, helping Zaylin McVay run for three long touchdowns. Brody Neville also helped spring a long touchdown run with a block.

Wagers and Ryder Starner had numerous tackles to lead the defense. Small also played well on that side of the ball.
