West Holmes sports roundup: Football rolls over Wooster for fifth consecutive win

Parsons leads Knights offense; cross country teams shine at Crestline, boys soccer splits, volleyball earns sweep, and Murphy nets five goals in soccer thriller.

Owen Neville led the Knights as the runner-up overall finisher at the Crestline Invitational on Sept. 30.

West Holmes extended its winning streak to five with a 39-6 victory over Wooster in an Ohio Cardinal Conference football clash on Sept. 26.

Brayden Parsons led the offense with three touchdowns and 223 yards on 20-of-30 passing. Reid Hoxworth (six catches, 96 yards), Coi Beachy (3-28) and Brody Bowman (3-12) all caught a touchdown pass. Lynn Cline caught three for 52 and Rhett Chaney four for 35. Bowman paced the rushing attack with 18 carries for 133 yards and two scores.

Oliver Fleming led the defense with 12 tackles including 3 1/2 sacks, and he forced two fumbles. Braxton Blake and Beachy had 13 tackles, Cline and Chris Williams had 10, Grady Hawkins had nine, Zach Hustack had eight (three for loss), and Mac Craft had an interception.

Girls cross country

West Holmes won the 12-team Crestline Invitational on Sept. 30.

Iriel Mena led WH with a second-place finish in 19:57. Katherine Kaster finished third in 20:39 and Alexis Wagers fifth in 21:19.

Boys cross country

West Holmes finished second out of 11 teams at the Crestline Invitational on Sept. 30.

Owen Neville led the Knights as the runner-up finisher in 18:02. Owen Mallasch finished eighth and Parker Garver 15th.

Boys soccer

Dover rolled to an 11-1 win over West Holmes in OCC action on Sept. 30.

Oliver Hiller scored WH’s lone goal from an assist by Garrett Obrst. Goalkeeper Ryder Fox finished with 21 saves.

West Holmes defeated Galion 5-3 in nonleague play on Sept. 25.

Obrst led the Knights with four goals. Hiller scored once, Jimmy Wengerd had two assists and Lucas Mast had one assist. Fox recorded eight saves including one off a penalty kick.

Volleyball

Ashland picked up a 25-7, 25-16, 25-13 win over West Holmes in an OCC clash on Sept. 30.

Mallory Marmet (10 kills, three blocks), Vivian Arbaugh (three blocks) and Lena Burgett (seven assists) led the Lady Knights.

West Holmes rolled to a 25-6, 25-12, 25-11 win over Mansfield Senior in OCC action on Sept. 25.

Camrie Wilson (13 assists), Mati Fair (seven aces) and Marmet (12 kills, five blocks) led the Lady Knights.

Girls soccer

West Holmes fell 7-5 to Ashland in an OCC clash on Sept. 25.

Charli Murphy led the Lady Knights with five goals. Sydney Hawkins and Breslyn Brown had an assist. Goalkeepers Lilli Brown and Landrie Croskey each recorded five saves.
