West Holmes football, cross country and soccer teams post big wins
Knights dominate Mansfield Senior on the gridiron, capture Nanny Goat Invite in girls cross country, and earn multiple soccer victories

West Holmes rolled to a 45-6 win over Mansfield Senior in Ohio Cardinal Conference football action on Sept. 12.
Brayden Parsons completed 15-of-18 passes for 375 yards and four touchdowns with one interception, Coi Beachy caught two passes for 122 yards and two scores, Rhett Chaney caught four passes for 97 yards and a score, Lynn Cline caught four passes for 83 yards and a score, Brody Bowman rushed for 83 yards and a score on 11 carries and caught three passes for 20 yards, and Reid Hoxworth caught two passes for 54 yards.
Cline (10 tackles), Braxton Blake (10), Beachy (nine), Chaney (eight), Mac Craft (interception), Dylan Sours (forced fumble) and Justin Meyers (forced fumble) paced the defense.
West Holmes defeated Dover 28-7 in nonleague play on Sept. 5.
Bowman rushed for 170 yards and a score on 33 carries, Cline rushed for 132 yards and two scores on 16 carries, Chaney caught two passes for 43 yards and a score, and Parsons completed 8-of-16 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions.
Blake (15 tackles), Oliver Fleming (11 tackles, two sacks), Beachy (11 tackles), Cline (10 tackles), Chris Williams (10 tackles), Craft (interception), Garrett Obrst (forced fumble), and Cam McCluggage (fumble recovery) led the defense.
Girls cross country
West Holmes won the eight-team Nanny Goat Invite on Sept. 13.
WH’s Iriel Mena led the way as the overall champion out of 64 runners. Katherine Kaster and Alexis Wagers finished second and fourth, respectively. Sophie Arnold, Chelsie Cooper and Ellie Babitt finished 10th, 15th and 17th, respectively.
Girls soccer
West Holmes rolled to a 7-2 nonconference victory over West Muskingum on Sept. 16.
Charli Murphy led the Lady Knights with five goals and two assists. Bri Poventud added two goals. Goalies Lilli Brown (five) and Saige Krownapple (three) combined to make eight saves.
John Glenn picked up a 4-1 nonleague win over West Holmes on Sept. 13.
Charli Murphy scored on a pass from Katherine Kaster for WH’s lone goal. Croskey recorded two saves and Krownapple three.
West Holmes beat New Philadelphia 6-0 in OCC action on Sept. 11.
Charli Murphy led the Lady Knights with four goals. Codi Murphy and Breslyn Brown each added one.
Strong defensive efforts came from Poventud, Sydney Hawkins, Taylin Clark and Lilli Brown, who held New Philadelphia without a shot on goal.
Boys cross country
West Holmes finished fifth out of eight teams at the Nanny Goat Invite on Sept. 13.
WH’s Owen Neville led the way with a third-place finish out of 83 runners. Owen Mallasch finished 10th, Parker Garver 20th, Remy Beachy 31st and Finn McClintock 35th to round out the scoring.
Boys soccer
Madison downed West Holmes 6-0 in OCC play on Sept. 16.
West Holmes beat Fairless 4-3 in nonleague action on Sept. 13.
Garrett Obrst led the Knights with three goals. Ryder Fox scored once while Miles Mallasch had an assist.
Volleyball
Lexington cruised to a 25-8, 25-9, 25-18 win over West Holmes in OCC action on Sept. 16.
Mallory Marmet (seven kills, three aces), Camrie Wilson (eight assists) and Kylin Kyte (four kills) paced WH.
Tusky Valley beat West Holmes 25-11, 25-9, 25-10 in nonleague play on Sept. 11.
Marmet (eight kills) and Wilson (eight assists) led the Lady Knights.
Eighth grade football
West Holmes beat Dover 52-26 on Sept. 10.
WH’s Cameron Badger ran for three touchdowns and Kaidence Thomas two. Easton Clark threw a touchdown pass to Jacoby Rice and Badger. Weston Rogers led the defense with an interception.
Seventh grade football
Dover rolled to a 60-34 win over West Holmes on Sept. 10.
Zayden McVay ran for five touchdowns and two 2-point conversions to pace the Knights. Ryker Stokovich had a fumble recovery and McVay an interception to lead the defense.
