West Holmes FFA shines in job interview and parliamentary contests

Students earn top finishes at sub-district and district events, qualify for advanced competition and join community activities such as Millersburg’s Christmas parade

On Thursday, Nov. 6, West Holmes FFA participated in the Sub District Job Interview Contest at Hillsdale High School. In the senior division, Madison Ringwalt was fourth. In the junior division, Shane Lorentz was third. In the sophomore division, Mia Spencer placed first, and in the freshman division, Conner Allison was fifth. In capturing first place, Spencer qualified for the District Job Interview Contest at Lucas.

On Monday, Nov. 10, Spencer participated in the District Job Interview Contest at Lucas High School. In the sophomore division, Spencer took second place. Good job Mia!

On Oct. 20, five West Holmes FFA members participated in the Chapter Job Interview Contest at West Holmes High School. Members went through an interview process; they wrote a cover letter and resume and filled out an application.

In the freshman division, Conner Allison placed first. In the sophomore division, Mia Spencer placed first. In the junior division, Shane Lorentz placed first. In the senior division, Madison Ringwalt was first, and Emma Emberhard was second.

In performing well in the contest, Allison, Spencer, Lorentz and Ringwalt qualified to compete in the Sub District Contest Nov. 7.

On Nov. 25 West Holmes FFA had one team travel to Wellington for the District 2 Parliamentary Procedure Contest. The senior team placed sixth. The team consisted of Ringwalt, Spencer, Lorentz, Emma McDonnell, Natty Lint and Makenzie Mast. Thanks to Wellington for hosting.

On Nov. 23 members of the West Holmes FFA chapter went to Hillsdale for the Sub District Parliamentary Procedure Contest. This CDE involves how to properly run a business meeting.

Members take a general knowledge test and run a mock meeting where they are scored on their presentation of motions and quality of debates. The senior team placed first, and the junior team placed third.

The senior team consisted of Ringwalt, Spencer, Lorentz, McDonnell, Lint and Mast.

The junior team consisted of Jensen Lorentz, Emily Ogi, Una Holasek, Tori Bell, Macie Sours, Allison, Breck Sheldon, Jocelyn Olney and Tori Kaufman. The senior team moved on to districts. Thanks to Hillsdale for hosting.

Seven West Holmes FFA members attended the Christmas Parade in Millersburg to bring Santa to town. Our theme was "The Grinch," and despite the cold, the members had a great time decorating the trailer and participating in the parade. Members in attendance included Jack Jewell, Shane Lorentz, Makenzie Mast, Jarrett Schafer, Breck Sheldon, Tyler Tope and Wyatt Troyer.
