West Holmes FFA packs October with meetings, service projects and competitions
Students approved new activities, honored costume winners, and placed fifth at the Fall Trap Shoot as the chapter’s busy fall schedule continued.

On Thursday, Oct. 16, the West Holmes FFA chapter held its
annual Halloween meeting at the Lorentz Farm. The meeting was called to order
by President Madison Ringwalt.
After conducting opening ceremonies and officer reports,
they went on to committee reports. Cara McMillen moved and Wyatt Troyer
seconded to recess for 25 minutes.
Rayne Larimore gave the SAE committee report. Billy Patten
gave the earnings and savings committee report. Blake Patterson gave the
community service committee report. Ben Forrer gave the state and national
affairs committee report. Emmy Miller gave the membership development committee
report.

Bri Poventud moved and Dylan Sours seconded to have doughnuts,
cookies, cider and milk after initiation. Hayden Conkle moved and Blake
Patterson seconded to hold an awareness fair before Greenhand initiation, pay for supplies, and to award a parent with a $15 gas card and a student with
a $15 gift card.
Logan Horn moved and Dylan Sours seconded to approve
Salvation Army bell ringing as recommended by the community service committee.
Emmy Miller moved and Emma McDonnell seconded to send officers to the Soil and
Water Banquet Nov. 18 and pay for registration for award winners and their
parents.
Jordan Long moved and Billy Patten seconded to sponsor the
5th Grade Farm Tour poster contest and award first place with $25, second with $15 and third with $10. Logan Van Dalen moved and Bri Poventud seconded to have Carter
Boyd and Bella Nardecchia participate in Greenhand Lock-In.

Jenna Zimmerly moved and Dylan Sours seconded to purchase
pumpkins and decoration supplies for the October meeting activity. Easton Uhl
moved and Ben Forrer seconded to pay for supplies to fix the fish tank and
purchase fish. Jarrett Schafer moved and Emmy Miller seconded to adjourn the
meeting.
All the motions passed.
The meeting adjourned at 7:06 p.m. After the
meeting the members and parents had chili, broccoli cheese soup, cornbread and
cookies for dinner. Then the freshmen and sophomores went through the haunted
trail put on by the juniors and seniors.
The group also had a costume contest.
The winners of each category were Jensen Lorentz, Scariest, dressed as Gender
Reveal Gone Wrong; Makenzie Mast, Most Holmes County, dressed as The Dairy Cow; Madison Mittman and Kendra Hall, Best Duo, dressed as Rodeo Clowns; Cadence Martie,
Mia Spencer and Ellectra Beachy, Best Trio, dressed as Aliens; Madison Ringwalt, Shane
Lorentz, Jenna Zimmerly and Bri Poventud, Best Group, dressed as Peter Pan characters; and Grady Hawkins and Dylan Sours, Judge's Choice, dressed as The Tree and Logger. Thanks to The

On Saturday, Oct. 25, the West Holmes FFA had nine members
participate in the Fall Trap Shoot at the Silver Dollar Sportsman Club. The
team placed fifth overall with a 151. Individually, Deacon Clemons had a 43,
Leland Turner had a 20, Keston McKinney posted a 29, Zander Croskey had a 28,
Bryar Strouse had a 24, Trenton Heller posted a 23, Logan Horn had a 21,
Jackson Baker had a 20 and Jarrett Schafer had a 20.
The top team from Hillsdale had a 218, and the top shooter
from Hiland had a 49. Congrats to these kids and thanks to Silver Dollar for
hosting.
