West Holmes FFA members earn Greenhand and Chapter Degrees at annual ceremony

On Nov. 17 the West Holmes FFA conducted the annual Greenhand Initiation and Chapter Degree Ceremony. After the officers conducted opening ceremonies, we listened to guest speaker Taylor Johnson.

She talked about becoming the best version of yourself and finding your own path. She also explained the importance and honor of receiving your Greenhand Degree and moving further in FFA. After we thanked her, we conducted the Greenhand and Chapter Degree ceremonies.

In the morning officers had the chance to dye the freshmen’s hands green to represent Greenhand Initiation. Freshmen also wore the T-shirt they made while attending the Greenhand Lock-in.

The members receiving their Greenhand Degree were Conner Allison, Clayton Beckett, Victoria Bell, Lane Burgett, Harlie Curry, Trenton Heller, Dean Hodson, Una Holasek, Tori Kaufman, Austin Long, Tim Mittman, Emily Ogi, Jocelyn Olney, Khloe Schafer, Breck Sheldon, Macie Sours, Bryar Strouse, Ron Tomlinson, Tyler Tope, Leland Turner and Patrick Weaver.

To receive their degree, freshmen had to have said the creed, have an active Supervised Agricultural Experience, and have knowledge of FFA history and parliamentary procedure.

To receive their chapter degree, members had to complete 10 hours of community service, have an active SAE and be an active participant in the FFA.

The members receiving their Chapter Degrees were Reece Anderson, Ellie Babitt, Jackson Baker, Electra Beachy, Deacon Clemens, Hayden Conkle, Courtney Crider, Zander Croskey, Gabriella Fowler, Kendra Hall, Cam Hinton, Jack Jewell, Chloe Kaser, Rayne Larimore, Natalie Lauriha, Natty Lint, Reagan Mackey, Emily Manges, Cadence Martie, Ali Mash, Makenzie Mast, Emma McDonnell, Madison Mittman, Mia Spencer, Wyatt Troyer and Andrew Weaver.

After the ceremony we finished up the meeting and adjourned. We ate doughnuts, cookies, apple cider and milk.
