The West Holmes Local Schools Board of Education met Monday, Feb. 17 at Killbuck Elementary for a regular meeting.
The board did the following during the meeting:
—Approved the hiring of Traci Strouse, custodian, effective pending a background check.
—Approved the transfers of Stephen Fowler, assistant elementary principal to elementary principal, effective Aug. 1; and Scott Vaughn, middle school physical education to high school physical education, effective Aug. 1.
—Approved the retirements of Cindy Beaumont, custodian, effective May 31; Valerie McFadden, cook, effective May 31; Renee Woods, principal, effective June 30; and Will O’Donnell, teacher, effective May 31.
—Approved the resignations of Delon Vansickle, custodian, effective Feb. 7; Cooper Charlton, teacher, effective May 31; Lisa Lash, social worker through the ESC, effective Jan. 28; Alexander Looney, teacher, effective May 31; Lacey Reynolds, teacher, effective May 31.
—Approved the following as substitutes: Joanna Zimmerly, non-degree teacher, effective Jan. 14, currently student teaching at Millersburg Elementary; Travis Weber, bus driver, effective Jan. 27; and Callie Proper, non-degree teacher, effective Feb. 10.
—Approved the following supplemental contracts: Wyatt Mellor, baseball varsity head coach; Geoff Wagers, baseball assistant coach; Darryl Woods, baseball assistant coach; Jordan Stutzman, baseball assistant coach; Kiowa Looney, baseball volunteer coach; Noah Clark, baseball volunteer coach; Mike Molnar, softball varsity head coach; Lacey Walters, softball assistant coach; Mary Day, softball assistant coach; Callie Cline, softball assistant coach; Scot Mellor, track varsity head coach; Mike Ewing, track assistant head coach; Kendra Martin Polowy, track assistant coach; DiVaunta Spearman, track assistant coach; Brittanie Chaney, track assistant coach; Terrell Yoder, track volunteer coach; Cooper Charlton, track middle school head boys coach; Isaac Haver, track middle school head girls coach; Bud Yoder, track middle school assistant boys coach; Clay Miller, track middle school assistant girls coach; Trevor Miller, boys tennis varsity head coach; Jason Otto, boys tennis assistant coach.
Other information
Killbuck Elementary Principal Brian Lash recognized Dawson Miller (fourth grade math) and Oaklyn McVicker (fourth grade ELA) for their perfect state test scores during the 2023-24 school year. Lash also recognized Fifth Grade Farm Tour essay winners McVicker (first place) and Gracie Grassbaugh (runner-up) and Killbuck School Spelling Bee winners Cambree Garver (first place) and Oakley Eastep (runner-up).
Nashville Elementary thanked Bigelow United Methodist Church for donating clothing items.
Killbuck Elementary thanked Sycamore Run for donating supplies and treats and the Killbuck community for the extra clothes, hats and gloves for students.
West Holmes Local Schools thanked the Lion’s Club and Eagles for their donations toward its school facility dog.
The next board meeting is scheduled for March 17 at Nashville Elementary.
