The Wayne County Historical Society Summer Community Band will have its concert on Thursday, July 15 at 7 p.m. in the northeast quadrant of the square in downtown Wooster, weather permitting.

The band will perform under the baton of Randy Claes for the 10th year. The band has grown considerably since Claes began directing, with over 60 current members. The band is open to anybody who plays a band instrument including percussion, young or not so young, experienced or not so experienced. The current band has members ranging in age from 12-82 including several with college degrees in music and several more who played in bands while in college.

At the concert the band will play marches, show tunes, patriotic songs and more in an effort to remind listeners of the bands many communities had a century or so ago.

Spectators will need to bring their own lawn chairs. If weather does not permit the outside concert, the show will be at OARDC’s Fisher Auditorium.

The WCHS Summer Community Band is sponsored for the 11th year by an anonymous friend of the WCHS. The band also wished to thank Wooster High School and Craig French for the use of the rehearsal facility and the loan of instruments; McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home for loaning the chairs for the band; Jim Bowersock of Jim's Auto for loaning the vehicle to haul the chairs; and sponsors, the Wayne County Historical Society, Sprenger Health Care Systems and The Daily Record.
