WCHS band to start practices
The WCHS Summer Community Band, sponsored by an anonymous donor for the Wayne County Historical Society, will have another summer concert.
This band is an effort to remind people of the bands many communities had back a century or so ago. The Wooster Board of Trade Band with its concerts in the old bandstand in front of the now E & H Hardware (former Everything Rubbermaid) store was an example of this type of band.
The band will perform under the baton of Randy Claes of Wooster on Thursday, July 20 in downtown Wooster. Spectators will need to bring their own chairs. If the weather does not permit being outside, a location for an indoor concert will be found.
The band also will perform a concert at Sonnenberg Village in Kidron on July 25.
The band plans to begin rehearsals in The College of Wooster’s Scheide Music Center Recital Hall on Wednesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. Rehearsals will continue on Wednesday evenings until July 19.
Anybody who plays a band instrument including percussion is welcome to join the band. Band members have ranged in age from 13-94. The band will play songs, marches, show tunes, patriotic songs and more.
For more information email Claes at randyclaes@gmail.com or Jerry Payn, band co-manager, at gmpayn@sssnet.com.
