Trumpet in the Land opening night to honor Joe Bonamico
On Friday, June 20 at 8:30 p.m., “Trumpet in the Land” will celebrate its 56th anniversary with a special tribute to the late Joseph Bonamico, remembered for his 37 years in the role of Simon Girty in “Trumpet in the Land” and “The White Savage.” Bonamico also portrayed Dracula each fall and was a vital part of the production for 42 seasons.
Beyond his work with “Trumpet in the Land,” Bonamico had an extensive professional career that included film, television, print and commercial work, as well as numerous stage productions across Ohio and Chicago. He was a member of Actors’ Equity Association, the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA.
A stage presentation honoring Bonamico’s contributions will take place at 8:15 p.m., prior to the performance.
To further commemorate his legacy, opening night tickets will be available for $10 to all Tuscarawas County residents. These discounted tickets can be purchased at the Tuscarawas County Convention and Visitors Bureau, located at 124 E. High Ave., New Philadelphia, through June 19 and at the box office on the night of the performance.
“Trumpet in the Land” tells the story of Ohio’s first settlement Schoenbrunn, the Gnadenhutten massacre and the early American frontier conflicts. With music, dance and drama, the script — written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green — brings this history to life on stage.
