A familiar face will take over the reins of the boys basketball team. Robert Neidenthal was selected as the Strasburg High School varsity boys basketball coach at a special meeting held May 20.
Neidenthal, a 1984 Strasburg High graduate, has served as the boys basketball assistant varsity coach for eight years. He has coached at different levels at Strasburg for about 20 years.
During his tenure on the boys staff, the Tigers appeared in two district final appearances and won the Inter Valley Conference Championship in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021. This is the first head coach position for Neidenthal; however, he was an assistant with the girls basketball program from 2007-14. He is employed by the school district as the supervisor of buildings and grounds.
“I am extremely humbled to have the opportunity to become the head boys basketball coach at Strasburg High. I can’t wait to get started and look forward to leading this storied program into the future,” Neidenthal said.
“Our committee was very impressed with coach Neidenthal’s vision of the entire program, his educational philosophy and his promotion of education-based athletics,” said Gary Spinell, athletic director. “In the interview process, it became evident how important basketball is to him.
“His passion for Strasburg and the community as a whole is second to none. He promotes the importance of a positive relationship among the boys. That is absolutely necessary in building a competitive and successful program.”
There were 18 applicants for the boys head basketball position.
The board also approved a four-year classified negotiated agreement. The classified staff will received $1 added to their hourly pay in 2025-26, and they will receive a 3% pay increase for each additional year of the agreement.
