Smithville Community Historical Society hosts annual Antique Market

The Smithville Community Historical Society's annual Antique Market will be Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Mishler Weaving Mill grounds. Vendors will present antiques and country collectibles available for purchase.

Norma Trotter, Barb Mast and friends will perform dulcimer music. A food vendor will offer cinnamon rolls, sandwiches and beverages. Parking is available behind the mill or at the Veterans Memorial at the park.

Pioneer Village in the center of Smithville will open its doors from 1:30-4 p.m.

The Pioneer Village showcases the pioneer lifestyle with buildings and artifacts dating from 1830-90.

Featured exhibits at the Downey Pioneer Visitors Center are a display from the former Sayre's IGA. This multi-generation business has served the community for many years. The store has diversified with a deli and is now the home of Bittersweet Antiques and Country Finds.

The second floor of the visitors' center includes a display of hats. Guests are encouraged to try hats on.

Pioneer Village craftsmen will be in their shops to demonstrate their trades. The Lydo Barn includes new displays explaining the various pieces of equipment used by local farmers in the early years of the settlement.

On the greens across from the Church of God, the Smithville Star's Vintage Base Ball team will play the Whiskey Island Shamrocks using rules from the 1860s. Guests are asked to bring their own chairs.

The Carpenter's Cup will grill hamburgers. Just Enough Antiques will hold its annual tent sale. Bittersweet Antiques and Country Finds and Sayre's Market Place will offer specials for the day.

The Smithville Community Historical event is free, but donations are accepted. Look for the new donation boxes made by Jim Holderman, which also hold information about events and membership applications.

Pioneer Village is located at 381 Main St. in Smithville.
