Rockets set their sights on a championship
What began as a dream and goal in November came to fruition on Sunday, March 10 in the Newark High School gymnasium. The Rockets Silver captured a berth to the Special Olympics Ohio State Tournament in Columbus on March 22-23 by defeating West Licking Warriors by a score of 57-49.
Leading the way was Matthew Medley with 29 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists and five steals. Deric Johnson added 19 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and two steals for the winners. Easton Dillon grabbed seven rebounds and recorded four points and one assist for the Rockets. Aidan Mahaffey had nine boards while Shane Johnson had five. Steve Hazelip also scored a bucket and grabbed six rebounds and two steals.
The Rockets Silver team will kick off tournament action on Friday, March 22 against Lucas County at Hilliard Bradley High School at 6:30 p.m. The address is 2800 Walker Road, Hilliard.
