Mother Nature brings the bloom in springtime

Mother Nature brings the bloom in springtime

Father Winter has always been rather reluctant to leave Ohio when his time here is up, but this year was just a bit different. Mother Nature managed to slip in a couple of days in mid-March, bringing bright, blue, sunny skies to give us all hope spring was on its way. By mid-April some days got warm enough to go outside without wearing a coat or sweater. Almost overnight, leaf buds and blossoms were opening on some trees, and bulbs were sending up leaves in our gardens. Spring has arrived.

Now the trees are full-leafed and gardens are bright and lovely with blooming flowers. The grass is greener and is ready for the first mowing of the season. We wake up every morning to the sound of chirping birds, and we can go sit outside and enjoy the warm sun. Thank you, Mother Nature!

Of course, this lovely weather also is enjoyed by weeds. They are popping up everywhere and spreading all over our gardens as they do every year. Interestingly, several rather good-sized weeds are actually covered with small flowers. Those weeds will stay where they are until their flowers are gone. Why? Because they have lovely flowers and cost me nothing.

There are seasons in many years Father Winter and Mother Nature do not get along. Mother Nature is in charge of all seasons. In other words she is the boss. Sometimes Father Winter cannot stand being told what to do, and he rebels. She always prevails, and eventually, spring arrives in Ohio.

When those two are in conflict, we Ohioans suffer. Fortunately, this year Father Winter’s rebellion didn’t last very long, and spring is here until summer arrives.

Everywhere I go, I see folks working in their yards and planting in their gardens. It’s been a lovely spring, and summer promises to be gorgeous.
