Living history event coming to Wooster
The seventh annual Civil War Living History Day will be held Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Wooster Library, hosted by the Wayne County Civil War Roundtable. There is no charge, and the event is open to the public.
The event will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War four years and one month after Gen. Lee finally surrendered. The war had gone on for four years almost to the day.
A highlight of the day will be the 73rd OVI Regiment Band, directed by John Huffman, with their original CW instruments playing CW-era songs. Another highlight will be Steve and Lisa Ball with their original CW-era Martin guitar and a string bass. They will sing and tell stories of the Civil War. They also will do a program on Stephen Foster songs.
Attendees will be able to visit with CW infantry soldiers and their encampment, CW officers of both the North and South, a CW surgeon, nurse “Mother” Bickerdyke, “Buffalo Bill,” spy Emma Edmonds, and confederates Jack and Elisabeth Hinson. There also will be CW-era spinning and weaving and CW artifacts and literature.
