In one holy night a precious gift was given

A Christmas poem reflects on the birth of Jesus, the angels’ announcement and the shepherds’ journey to the manger.

In one holy night, the entire world would change,

When a precious gift was given from heaven's highest range.

The valleys and fields became quiet and still,

As a baby Savior was born upon a hill.

None had seen a miracle like this so grand,

As this "good news" was spread across the land.

His name would be Emmanuel, Messiah for all.

"God with us" would be the beckoning call.

This baby was special because the angels had announced,

"Good tidings of great joy" were their words pronounced.

The shepherds who saw this glorious sight,

Fell to their knees because the angels were so bright.

They witnessed something no one had ever seen,

Angels beholding an announcement so keen.

I'm sure the shepherds were trembling, but the angels said, "Fear not."

Their news was of God's grandeur about this baby heaven brought.

With awe, they were surrounded and with their unspeakable words …

After all, they just saw a part of heaven as they stood amongst their herds.

They left in a hurry to go find

This baby in a manger with peace in mind.

The zealous shepherds told others this glorious news while on their way.

I'm sure they ran to find the place where baby Jesus was lying on the hay.

As they drew near, they were able to see and look upon the Savior …

Can you imagine … first the heavenly host and then seeing God's favor?

The peace that was felt there that night had to be surreal.

Standing in the presence of God made everybody bow and kneel.

The love they felt made their hearts overflow,

Seeing Jesus, God's Son, sent for the world to know.

“That every knee should bow and tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,”

This is the Word of God; let us behold Christ, the one to be adored.

Let's give God praise and all glory every day.

He sent his son Jesus to take our sins away.

Look to Christ, God's heavenly atoning gift.

Ask him for forgiveness, and your burdens he will lift.

Remember that one holy night in your heart,

Jesus gave for you so in heaven you'd have a part.

Emmanuel was born that day.

God's precious love has the last say.

No one could ever love you more than Jesus, our king,

Let him be your Savior today as your sins to him you bring.
