Holmes Library has programs for all ages in February

Teens can get creative by picking up a craft kit at the Holmes Central Library in February. The kit includes supplies to make homemade gummy candies.
Winter reading programs continue for kids, teens and adults until March 1. Kids can read their way to prizes by joining the Kids Winter Reading Program while teens and adults can sip cocoa, dive into a good book and win rewards. Registration is required for both programs.
Storytime sessions will delight little ones and their caregivers throughout February. At the East Branch Library, storytime will take place Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26. The Holmes Central Library will host its sessions on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 7, 14, 21 and 28. These gatherings feature stories, songs and rhymes for children age 2-5 accompanied by an adult.
Following storytime at the Holmes Central Library, kids can join the Little Learners Playgroup from 11 a.m. to noon on the same Fridays. Kids up to age 5 with an adult will have activities designed to promote reading and social skills, along with provided snacks.
History buffs can look forward to two events at the Holmes Central Library in February. On Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m., Joe Herrick from the Age of Steam Roundhouse Museum in Sugarcreek will share the history of the Roundhouse and the role of railroads and trains in America’s development.
On Feb. 11 at 5:30 p.m., historian Patrick Drouhard will present an account of the Civil War-era events surrounding Ft. Fizzle and the Holmes County Rebellion, using National Archival records to share a historically accurate account of the events that took place near Glenmont. Registration is required for both programs.
For young readers, the Paws to Read event on Feb. 8 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Holmes Central Library will offer a chance to read to certified therapy dogs from Caring Therapy Canines.
Families with kids age 6-12 can join the Book Quest Club on Feb. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Holmes Central Library. This month’s theme, “Mysterious Reads,” includes exploring mystery-themed books and creating a matching bookmark. Registration is required.
Kids in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to the Holmes Central Library on Feb. 24 from 4-5 p.m. for After School Fun. The hour includes board games, crafts and activities, with snacks provided.
Adult book discussions will be held Feb. 25 at the Holmes Central Library. Readers can join the conversation about “Someone Else’s Bucket List” by Amy T. Matthews at 1 p.m. and “The Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd at 6 p.m.
