Teens can kick off the month with a January craft kit, available at the Holmes Central Library. The kit includes supplies to make a DIY bird feeder.
On Jan. 2, 3 and 4 during business hours, the Homes Central Library children’s room will feature daily crafts, board games, and building activities with LEGOs and magnetic tiles.
The Winter Reading Program will launch Jan. 6 and run through March 1. Kids, teens and adults can participate to win prizes. Children can join the program to read and earn rewards while older participants can pair a good book with cocoa to chase away the winter chill. Registration is required for both programs.
On Jan. 7 at 5:30 p.m., all ages are invited to the Holmes Central Library for an Introduction to American Sign Language, led by representatives from the Holmes County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Registration is required.
Story time sessions will begin Jan. 8 at the East Branch Library, running every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. through the month. Children age 2-5 accompanied by an adult can enjoy stories and activities. At the Holmes Central Library, story time will take place Fridays at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 10, 17, 24 and 31, followed by the Little Learners Playgroup from 11 a.m. to noon, which includes snacks and activities designed to promote reading and social skills for kids up to age 5.
On Jan. 11 from 11 a.m. to noon, kids can attend Paws to Read at the Holmes Central Library, an opportunity to read to certified therapy dogs from Caring Therapy Canines.
Adults can explore the impact of domestic violence on children in a program led by Gayle Byrne, a OneEighty response coordinator and victim advocate, on Jan. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the Holmes Central Library. Registration is required for this program.
Families are invited to a Movie Matinee on Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. at the Holmes Central Library, featuring “Harold and the Purple Crayon,” rated PG. Attendees can bring chairs, blankets, snacks and drinks with lids. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
On Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m., the Book Quest Club invites families with kids age 6-12 to explore adventure-themed books and create a reading survival pack at the Holmes Central Library. Registration is required.
“Dog Man” fans age 7-12 can celebrate the release of the new movie on Jan. 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holmes Central Library with crafts and activities. Registration is required.
On Jan. 27 from 4-5 p.m., the Holmes Central Library will offer board games, crafts and other activities for K-6. Snacks will be provided.
Adult readers can join a book discussion at the Holmes Central Library on Jan. 28. Discussions will focus on “The Lost Continent: Travels in Small-Town America” by Bill Bryson at 1 p.m. and “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes at 6 p.m.
