Holmes Center for the Arts announced its lineup of fall
2025 visual art classes.
Homeschool art for elementary students will be offered
Thursdays, Aug. 28 through Oct. 16 from 9:30-11 a.m. with Lisa Miller. The
class is for kindergarten through fifth grade and costs $132. Students will use a variety of materials to
create 2D and 3D artwork inspired by famous artists and art
movements.
Homeschool art for middle and high school students will be
held Thursdays, Aug. 28 through Oct. 16 from 9:30-11 a.m. with Cathie Lynch
and Emma Webb. The class, Old School/New School, costs $132. Students will
focus on traditional drawing and painting with Lynch during the first four
weeks. Webb will teach the basics of digital art including navigating
Procreate and using layers on HCA’s iPad Pros during the final four weeks.
Mixed media abstract collage will run Thursdays, Aug. 28 through
Sept. 18 from noon to 1:30 p.m. with Marcia Detter. The adult class costs $63,
and all materials are provided.
Autumn-inspired botanical art will be offered twice. A
teen-adult session will run Saturdays, Sept. 6-27 from 1-2:30 p.m., and an adult
session will run Thursdays, Sept. 25 through Oct. 16 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Both
are led by Detter and cost $63. Students should bring a good set of colored
pencils such as Prismacolor, and other materials will be provided.
Introduction to calligraphy will be offered Thursdays, Oct.
30 through Nov. 20 from noon to 1:30 p.m. with Detter. The adult class costs
$63, and supplies are provided.
Saturday morning cartooning with Dylan Olsen is open to kids
and teens for $13 per class. Sessions will be held Sept. 13 and 27, Oct. 11 and
25, and Nov. 8 and 22 from 9-10 a.m.
Stained-glass with Chris Franks will run Mondays, Sept. 29
through Oct. 27 from 3:30-5 p.m. for age 18 and up. The five-week course
costs $130 and includes supplies for autumn-themed stained-glass projects.
Participation is limited to eight.
Open studio oil painting meets Saturdays from 10 a.m. to
noon on an ongoing basis for a $5 studio fee. Participants bring their own
supplies.
Open studio ceramics is
available Tuesdays from 4-8 p.m. The cost is $15 for the first hour and $10 for
each additional hour. A 25-pound block of clay, including use of HCA glazes and
firing, is $75. Sign-up is on HCA’s Jackrabbit portal. Attendees must take
unused clay with them. Pieces in progress may stay on shelves.
Hand-building clay for kids with Staci Lecky will run Wednesdays, Sept. 3-24 from 4:15-5:15 p.m. for age 8-12 at a cost of $55.
Hand-building clay for tweens and teens with Lecky will run Wednesdays, Oct. 1-22 from 4:15-5:15 p.m. for age 12 and up. The cost is $55.
Autumn skies with Marlea Hershberger-Leinbach will be
offered Friday, Oct. 3 from 6-7:30 p.m. for age 16 and up at a cost of $25.
Mocktails and “Matisse” with Hershberger-Leinbach will be
held Friday, Nov. 7 from 6-7:30 p.m. for age 16 and up. The cost is $30. Participants
are invited to bring mock or cocktail ingredients or use those HCA provides to
create a concoction fit to capture on canvas (and to drink). Materials will be
provided to create a mixed-media artwork that explores color, texture and
collage.
Creativity workshop with Mary Gilmore will run Wednesdays, Nov.
5-19 from 6-7 p.m. for age 14 and up at a cost of $35. Students will
participate in guided creative exercises and create stand-alone artworks including wire sculpture, clay and mixed-media collage.
Wheel-throwing ceramics with Lecky will run Wednesdays, Sept. 10
through Oct. 22 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. for age 16 and up. The seven-week class
costs $160 plus a $40 supply fee.
