Ohio State University educator Melinda Hill has been awarded the Excellence in Extension Award by the Ohio Joint Council of Professionals/Epsilon Sigma Phi during its annual conference.

As OSU Extension’s highest honor, this annual award recognizes a superior extension professional and is based on excellence in teaching, research and service. The award includes a $1,000 cash award and the addition of $1,000 to the winner’s base salary.

Hill has been the family and consumer sciences educator in Wayne County for 35 years. She specializes in food preservation, basic financial literacy and home-ownership education. In 2018 she began serving in an administrative role for extension as an area leader working with staff in Ashland, Wayne, Holmes and Coshocton counties. Her favorite parts of the job are hiring, training, mentoring and supporting over 20 staff members.

Hill is a previous winner of the Distinguished Service Award and Continued Excellence Award from Ohio JCP/ESP.
