Hiland volleyball sweeps Sandy Valley, Claymont in IVC play
Lady Hawks also notch boys soccer shutout and strong golf finishes in a busy week of competition.

The Hiland volleyball team defeated Claymont 25-13, 25-22, 25-14 in Inter-Valley Conference play on Sept. 23.
Addi Mast (15 kills, three aces, seven digs), Brianna Mishler (28 assists, four aces), Alayna Yoder (six kills, three blocks), Claire Detweiller (four kills, eight digs), Karli Schrock (five kills), Olivia Miller (12 digs) and Sophia Hamsher (four kills) paced the Lady Hawks.
Hiland beat Sandy Valley 25-19, 25-13, 25-17 in an IVC clash on Sept. 18.
Mast (14 kills, six digs), Yoder (five kills), Schrock (five kills), Detweiller (five kills), Hamsher (five kills), Mishler (32 assists) and Miller (11 digs) led the Lady Hawks.
Boys golf
Hiland shot a 309 to finish fourth at the IVC Postseason Tournament on Sept. 18.
Jack Mast (70), Andrew Beun (71) and Jesse Conn (82) led the Hawks.
Girls golf
Hiland shot a 435 to finish sixth at the Division II Carroll Meadows Sectional on Sept. 23.
Kylie Miller (83) and Caitlin Conn (96) led the Lady Hawks.
Boys soccer
Hiland rolled to a 6-0 win over Canton Central Catholic on Sept. 23.
Christian Mullet led the Hawks with four goals. Rowen Miller (two assists) and Kadyn Ruiz scored once, Roman Tkachuk had two assists, and Cam Yoder had one assist. Goalie Chase Coblentz recorded three saves.
“After a week layoff, we were not quite as sharp as we would like to be, but overall, we played pretty well,” Hiland coach Scott Bodiker said. “It was an important game for us because it was coming after a break and at the start of a three-game week. Hopefully, this game set the right tone for us to have good games against two good teams in Clear Fork and Cardinal Mooney.”
Girls soccer
Wooster pulled out a 4-3 win over Hiland on Sept. 22.
Chanelle Kellogg led the Lady Hawks with two goals. Italee Mullet scored once while Claire Mullet and Ally Mullet each had an assist. Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Klink recorded five saves.
“(I) honestly thought we played well,” Hiland coach Conner Lee said. “(We) just need to defend set pieces better.”
Hoban rolled to a 7-0 victory over Hiland on Sept. 18.
Klink finished with 10 saves.
“(We were) outclassed by a better team in all ways,” Lee said. “(It was a) good game to work on what we can control, and I thought we played hard.”
