Hiland volleyball clinches outright IVC South championship; Hawks golf, soccer teams continue strong postseason push

Lady Hawks sweep Ridgewood for league crown; boys golf advances to state, and Hiland soccer squads notch key victories over local rivals

Hiland beat Ridgewood 25-22, 25-13, 25-14 to capture the outright Inter-Valley Conference South Division volleyball title on Oct. 7.

Addi Mast (12 kills, 11 digs), Karli Schrock (10 kills, four blocks), Claire Detweiler (eight kills), Alayna Yoder (eight kills), Brianna Mishler (37 assists) and Sophia Hamsher (four aces) led the Lady Hawks.

Hiland rolled to a 25-14, 25-7, 25-10 nonleague win over Holmes County rival West Holmes on Oct. 4.

Mast (11 kills), Detweiler (nine kills), Schrock (nine kills), Yoder (five kills, three blocks), Mishler (31 assists) and Hamsher (five aces) paced the Lady Hawks.

Hiland defeated Garaway 23-25, 25-12, 25-15, 25-16 in an IVC battle on Oct. 2.

Mast (21 kills, 13 digs), Mishler (43 assists, seven aces, 12 digs), Yoder (nine kills, four blocks, four aces), Detweiler (14 kills, seven digs, two aces), Olivia Miller (15 digs) and Schrock (six kills, two blocks) led the Lady Hawks.

Boys golf

Hiland advanced to the Division II state tournament by winning the Div. II River Greens District with a 317 on Oct. 2.

Jack Mast led the Hawks and all golfers with a 72. Andrew Beun added a 77, Jesse Conn an 83 and Grant Bille an 85.

Girls golf

Competing as an individual, Hiland’s Kylie Miller shot an 86 at the Div. II Cambridge District on Oct. 1.

Boys soccer

Hiland defeated Tri-Valley 3-0 on Oct. 4.

Rowen Miller, Noah Troyer (assist) and Luke Bodiker all scored once. Christian Mullet had an assist. Goalkeeper Chase Coblentz recorded one save.

“We didn't play our best tonight,” Hiland coach Scott Bodiker said. “We were just a little sloppy with our passing and ball control. Defensively, though, we were very solid and didn't leave our keeper much to do. Tri-Valley's keeper was fantastic and really kept them in the game.”

Hiland rolled to an 8-0 win over Minerva on Oct. 2.

Mullet led the Hawks with three goals and an assist. Luke Bodiker and Troyer had a goal and an assist. Rowen Miller, Cam Yoder and Kadyn Ruiz scored once while Joel Leinbach had an assist. Coblentz finished with three saves.

Girls soccer

Hiland picked up a 5-2 win over Holmes County rival West Holmes on Oct. 7.

Italee Mullet scored three goals to lead the Lady Hawks. Chanelle Kellogg scored once and had two assists, Ally Mullet scored once, and Minka Mullet had an assist. Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Klink finished with three saves.

“(It was a) good win and overall defensive effort to keep a dangerous West Holmes offense to just two goals,” Hiland coach Conner Lee said.

Hiland pulled out a 2-1 win over Norwayne on Oct. 2.

Gabby Mullet and Ally Mullet scored for the Lady Hawks. Claire Mullet had an assist. Klink recorded four saves.

“(It was a) great win against a tough Norwayne squad,” Lee said. “I felt like we controlled a lot of the game well and was glad to capitalize on some chances.”
