The Hiland girls soccer team eked out a 2-1 win over River View on Sept. 9.
Italee Mullet led the Lady Hawks with a goal and an assist. Chanelle Kellogg also scored.
“(We) need to finish our chances,” Hiland coach Conner Lee said.
Hiland picked up a 5-2 win over Tusky Valley on Sept. 4.
Minka Mullet and Italee Mullet (assist) scored twice to lead the Lady Hawks. Ally Mullet scored once, Kellogg had two assists, and Chloe Mullet and Gabby Mullet had one assist. Goalie Hayley Yoder finished with four saves.
“(It was a) good team win,” Lee said. “(We) finished well and defended well. (There are) a few small mistakes to learn from but happy overall with the result.”
Boys soccer
Hiland rolled to a 6-0 win over Tusky Valley on Sept. 9.
Luke Bodiker scored three goals and assisted on another to lead the Hawks. Christian Mullet scored once and dished three assists while Connor Hershberger and Roman Tkachuk scored once. Goalies Chase Coblentz and Julius Hadtstein finished with one save and three, respectively.
“We are dealing with a lot of injuries, and despite that, we played really well tonight,” Hawks coach Scott Bodiker said. “It was important to get off to a fast start so we could give some guys rest tonight, and we did exactly that.”
Hiland played North Olmsted to a 1-1 draw at Historic Crew Stadium on Sept. 6.
Mullet scored the Hawks’ lone goal. Coblentz finished with three saves.
“This was a very strong game from our guys tonight,” coach Bodiker said. “North Olmsted is the biggest school (Division II) that we will play, and we didn't come out intimidated. We had a good plan, and we executed it. Both teams dodged a few bullets along the way, and as the stats ended up showing, the game was pretty even and could have gone either way.
"We had a few good chances in the last five to six minutes to steal the win, but a tie was probably a pretty fair result. We bounced back very well from a subpar effort on (Sept. 4), and this really reinforces to our team that we can play with anyone when we put in the effort and are mentally focused.”
