Boys soccer

Hiland defeated Cardinal Mooney 2-0 on Sept. 27.

Christian Mullet and Connor Hershberger scored a goal for the Hawks. Bodie Gertz and Luke Bodiker had an assist. Goalkeeper Chase Coblentz recorded eight saves.

“This was a great way to end our week,” Hiland coach Scott Bodiker said. “Cardinal Mooney is an excellent team who plays a very difficult schedule. Our guys started with a lot of confidence and really put them under a lot of pressure in the opening 20 minutes and were rewarded with two nice goals. We had chances for more. (During) the second half, our defense and keeper did an excellent job of weathering a lot of pressure, and we played a very smart game. I thought we had an excellent game plan going in, and the players were awesome with their execution today.”

Hiland picked up a 2-0 win over Clear Fork on Sept. 25.

Roman Tkachuk and Mullet scored a goal while Luke Bodiker had an assist. Coblentz recorded three saves.

“Clear Fork has a nice team,” coach Bodiker said. “This was a very quality win for us. They have improved a ton from early in the season, and I knew they would give us all we wanted. We controlled play the first 20 minutes, and then they did a nice job of wrestling some control from us. The final 15 minutes we found another gear and were able to get a couple of goals to finish things off.”
