Hiland soccer, volleyball and golf teams notch key victories

Hawks boys soccer secures wins over Lake Center Christian and Chippewa; girls soccer, volleyball and golf add strong performances

Isaac Thomas and the Hiland boys soccer team picked up a 5-1 victory over Lake Center Christian on Sept. 16.

The Hiland boys soccer team picked up a 5-1 victory over Lake Center Christian on Sept. 16.

Christian Mullet scored two goals while Roman Tkachuk, Rowen Miller and Noah Troyer (three assists) scored once. Luke Bodiker had an assist while goalkeeper Chase Coblentz collected four saves.

“This was a good, solid win for us tonight,” Hiland coach Scott Bodiker said. “Lake Center was a regional finalist last year, and they lost a lot, but they have a good core returning as well as some excellent young players. Their record is not indicative of the quality that they have. I was pleased that we kept our focus when things didn't start fantastic tonight.”

Hiland rolled to a 7-1 win over Chippewa on Sept. 11.

Mullet led the Hawks with four goals and an assist. Tkachuk (three assists), Connor Hershberger and Troyer scored once, Luke Bodiker had two assists, and Kadyn Ruiz had one assist. Coblentz recorded four saves.

“We didn't play our best tonight, but we did create quite a few chances and finished them at a very high rate,” coach Bodiker said. “We've played a lot of games in a short period of time, and we are pretty beat up. We need to keep working to improve and get healthy as we hit the second half of our season.”

“(I) would have liked to see the back of the net a few more times but happy with a win and shutout,” Lee said.

Chippewa picked up a 3-0 win over Hiland on Sept. 10.

Yoder finished with eight saves.

“(It was a) good game to see how we stack up against good competition,” Lee said. “(There are) definitely things to work on but some positives as well.”
